What can Happen if Someone Deals with the Car Accident Themselves

Posted by Michael G. Butash | Apr 24, 2020 | 0 Comments

There is nothing stopping an individual from choosing to handle everything themselves after they have been involved in a car accident. This includes getting financial assistance with their medical bills and treatments, as well as covering the bills when trying to fix their automobile to get It back up and running. If someone chooses to not use the skills and services of a car accident attorney, Boyette residents need to be well aware of the major repercussions that can happen to someone who chooses to go through the process alone and accidentally mess something up, or does not know everything to make better decisions.

Filing an Insurance Claim Incorrectly

In order for someone to start receiving financial assistance as the result of a car accident, they need to file a claim with an insurance company. This is something that is often underestimated by individuals who choose to handle the whole process themselves, and there are many ways that this process can get messed up and jeopardize their right for financial assistance. With the help of a car accident attorney, Boyette residents who are filing a claim do not have to risk losing out on financial assistance they could desperately use in a time when money is being spent on medical bills. Some people end up getting their claim denied by simply putting in the wrong information, or not enough information.

Settling for Less Than What Their Claim is Worth

After someone files a claim correctly, they still are not able to receive assistance for their medical treatment or for car repairs. What will happen is an insurance company will assign an adjuster to an individual's case to review and evaluate their claim, and oftentimes they will negotiate with the individual to lower the payout of their claim. Without a car accident attorney, Boyette residents might end up settling with the adjuster for less than what their claim is worth. Insurance adjusters may easily take advantage of someone who chooses to not have any legal presentation present during these negotiations because they know that they probably have never dealt with filing a claim before.
