Does it matter where I was arrested like near a school in determining how I am charged?

Well, it's going to depend on what you were doing and what you were arrested for. If you were simply arrested for a battery charge then it doesn't really matter if you were near a school. If you were in the school and you disturbed a school function, you could be charged with disturbing a school function. If you are near a school or church or certain other areas and you have an amount of drugs on you, you could with possession with intent of that controlled substance, if you are within a certain distance of those places. Such as, if you're within 1000 feet of a school, that would elevate your charge to, possibly, a first degree felony, depending on what you were charged with.
