The Common Types of Criminal Cases

Posted by Michael G. Butash | May 14, 2019 | 0 Comments

There are many types of criminal cases that people may be aware of. Because of criminal TV shows and movies, many people only think of a murder or homicide case when referring to a criminal case. Tampa residents should be aware that there are more common criminal cases that lawyers deal with on a daily basis compared to some events that are shown on TV. In fact, in terms of frequency of criminal cases, murder and homicide are rare, and they are often not portrayed properly in films. There are many other criminal cases that are handled by legal professionals that some people may not have considered when considering a criminal case.

Drug and Alcohol Related Cases

Arguably one of the most common type of criminal case that legal professionals end up representing their client in is drug related cases or a DUI. Even though it is illegal to be irresponsible with drugs, many people often overlook these cases as a criminal case. Tampa residents should be aware that not every criminal case, such as non-fatal DUI cases, result in jail time (in some states). This is a common misconception people have based on the information they are given about the court systems on television.

Assault and Battery Cases

Many of the criminal cases broadcast on television involve fatalities, but not all instances of physical violence result in someone involved in a murder. It is quite common for people to get involved in a criminal case for being involved in a physical altercation. If someone is involved with a criminal case, Tampa residents are more likely to deal with an instance of an assault or a battery. A battery case insinuates that someone caused physical harm to another person, while an assault does not imply violence, and can simply be a verbal threat.
