What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence in Florida is generally defined as any assault, battery, or possibly stalking charge that's against a family member or member of your household.

The Florida Statutes defines a family member as anybody that is related to you, by either blood or marriage. A household member could include anybody that you've lived with or cohabited with in the past.

It's very important for you to contact an experienced attorney that has domestic violence cases because, just because you were arrested for a domestic violence case, does not necessarily mean that it was domestic violence. The Florida Statutes will penalize you a little stiffer, if it is considered domestic violence.
