Should I Hire an Attorney for a DUI?

Posted by Michael G. Butash | Dec 06, 2017 | 0 Comments

Although it seems that everyone knows someone who has been charged with driving under the influence, DUI's are a serious criminal charge in most states. Depending on many factors of a DUI case, an individual may be facing hefty fines and some serious jail time on top of losing their driving privileges in a lot of cases. With so much potentially at stake, it would be beneficial for an individual to seek out the assistance of a DUI Attorney. Land O' Lakes defendants in which this is not their first time with being charged for driving under the influence should definitely consider hiring a DUI attorney to represent them.

Attorneys May Help you with a DUI Plea Bargain

Trials can be expensive and take up a lot of space and time for the state that they would rather accept a plea for a lesser charge than might having to lose a trial. While some plea bargains can be accomplished without the help of a DUI Attorney, Land O' Lakes defendants should be aware that an experienced DUI attorney would know how to negotiate with the prosecution. Also, it is not uncommon for a prosecutor with a weak case to try and bluff their way to a plea bargain because it would be more advantageous for the state.

DUI Attorneys May Help You Receive a Reduced Sentence

Because courts are willing to consider plea bargains in most states for DUI's, an attorney will be able to reach and appropriate agreement between you and the prosecutor. Plea bargains are all about making deals, or in the case of a DUI defendant, a reduced sentence. With the assistance of a DUI attorney, Land O' Lakes second offenders are usually facing jail time that can be dropped in a plea deal. Another way that an attorney can help in a DUI case is if the drugs in question is not alcohol. DUI attorneys are very good at working on a deal with prosecutors even in the toughest of situations.
