What are Common Reasons People Get a Restraining Order?

Most people know that a restraining order is a court order that restricts the action or prevents a person from contacting or communicating with another person. Yet even though they might understand what is the point of a restraining order, Land O' Lakes residents might not be familiar with why someone would be forced to comply with a restraining order. There are many reasons why an individual may seek to get a restraining order, or an order of protection against another individual. The type and duration of a restraining order can depend on the instances that happened between the two individuals.

Physical Violence from an Individual

Often times the most common reason why an individual would feel the need to file a restraining order against another person is If there is evidence of physical violence. This is a very common scenario between two people who were once married, or they are involved with a child. With a restraining order, Land O' Lakes need to prove they have been dealing with an issue, such as physical violence. A court is not going to assume that you are telling the truth because not being able to contact or communicate with another person can be very serious if it is for no reason.

Psychological Abuse

There is more than one way for an individual to feel the need for a restraining order in relationship between two individuals than physical violence. Psychological or emotional abuse is also grounds for someone to file for a restraining order. Land O' Lakes residents should be aware that even blank threats of physical violence or actions to cause distress constitutes as psychological abuse. Most forms of psychological abuse happen when one individual feels the need to verbally abuse another individual based on their actions, or the way the perpetrator is feeling about the circumstances.
