For how long is an order of protection valid?

That’s going to depend on the type of order of protection that you have. If it’s a temporary order of protection, than that is currently only valid up until the final hearing or unless it has been continued by a judge. A final order of protection, it’s going to be up to the judge to determine how long that injunction is going to be in place. There’s a wide variety, I’ve seen them anywhere from 30, 60, 90 days, 6 months, 9 months, a year, and indefinite. The judge ultimately is going to ask the person who’s seeking the injunction should the judge grant the injunction, how long they want the order in place. If they make a reasonable request, it’s likely the judge is going to give them what they want.
