What if the abuse continues even if I have a temporary restraining order (TRO)?

A temporary restraining order is just as good as a permanent restraining order. The difference is when you file the injunction, the petition for the injunction, the court will look at it and, based on the facts listed in the petition itself, it will grant it or deny it temporarily. If it’s granted temporarily, it’s in full force and effect until there’s a final hearing and the judge determines whether on a permanent basis it will remain in effect. If the violence continues on a temporary domestic violence injunction, it is still a crime, and the person can still be arrested.
